Available Hi/Mate MIL-C- 38999 Insert Arrangements
MIL-C-38999 Hi/Mate high voltage contact assemblies are now available from Reynolds Industries Connector Products Division. These assemblies can be installed by the user or purchased as special cable assemblies in shell sizes 17, 21, 23 and 25.
Any 12 gauge cavity in the insert arrangements shown below, can be converted to a 13.5 KVDC high voltage circuit without modification to the insert, by installing a Hi/Matecontact assembly in the appropriate pin and socket combination. Insert arrangements are in accordance with MIL-STD-1560. Twelve gauge cavities are identified by letters or numerals.

Installing the Hi/Mate High Voltage Contact Assembly

Hi/Mate Plug Contact Assembly Hi/Mate Receptacle Contact Assembly

Hi/Mate plug and receptacle contact assemblies can be installed into the 12 gauge cavity of a 38999 insert. The insertion/ removal procedures are the same as those for any standard 12 size contact for use on a 38999 series III connector. NOTE: (1) The Hi/Mate plug assembly can only be installed into a 38999 pin insert. (2) The Hi/Mate receptacle assembly can only be installed into a 38999 socket insert. The following instructions apply to either a plug or receptacle Hi/Mate high voltage contact assembly.

1. To Install. Squeeze the Astro insertion tool to open the split cylinder. Carefully fit the open cylinder over the wire and the assembly body. Release the squeezer to close the cylinder. Slide the cylinder forward until it rests against the shoulder on the body of the contact assembly. Wet the cylinder with isopropyl alcohol. Press the nose of the assembly into the insert grommet until it bottoms out. Remove the tool slowly until it is out of the insert. Squeeze to open the cylinder and carefully remove from around the wire.

2. To remove. Squeeze the Astro removal tool and carefully fit the open cylinder over the wire and release. Wet the cylinder with isopropyl alcohol. Slide the closed cylinder into the insert grommet until it bottoms. To remove, apply a forward pressure on the tool and simultaneously pull the wire and the tool slowly out of the insert. Squeeze the tool to open the cylinder and carefully remove from around the wire.
